Hey so basically I am making this because i always forget something cool that happens to me in a week and therefore i forget to tell Mom and Dad about it on Sunday. So now i am here writing a blog which i never thought i would end up doing.
So i will just start by trying to remember everything that has happened to me so far since i have been in college. In Case anyone who doesn't know me I am Alex Leavitt and attending the University of Utah. I feel like i can skip the first week or so of my college experience seeing that my dad has already written about it. I am just going to give the highlights of college so far and in future posts will be a little more detailed seeing that i have a little more than a months of stuff to cover.
The first awesome thing that happened was the fact that i went to the first Football game for Utah where we dominated Utah State. it was my first college football game where i actually felt like i was way into and actually cared if we won. of course i have been to college football games before but really i never really cared who won as long as there were some awesome plays to talk about afterwards i was a happy kid. but being from the college going through all the pep-rallies i felt like they were apart of me and i would be deeply hurt if they lost. it is a weird feeling. After the game there was this huge party after at the institute where there was free food and dancing. and if you know me those are two of my favorite things so i was having a good time.
Another fun thing for was that i joined an LDS Fraternity. Being in the dorms is fun, but it seems like the majority of the people in the dorms are non-members or trying to get away from the church. so in the first few weeks of school i was having a hard time making friends with and LDS kids. so i joined BETA. it is a ton of fun rushing, there was a huge party and everything for where they had a mechanical bull a huge dance free food a bounce house and a whole lot more. all of the Frats seemed really cool but there was one sentence that the BETA president said that when he said it i knew BETA was for me. he said "In BETA we are all about the girls." So far i have had a ton of fun and i will be sure to tell you all about the cool stuff we do.
Another huge awesome thing that has happened to me was that i got to go to a JAZZ game for free. one of the guys i made friends with earlier this year won like 10 JAZZ tickets, and he invited me to go. it was a ton of fun having a group of us go down to the arena. I have never been to a professional NBA basketball game before. mainly because in San Diego they don't have an NBA team. while i was there the jazz dancers came out and on the main screen i saw a girl i had met earlier in the beginning of school. a girl Named Sydney Sorenson i had gotten her number we are friends on facebook and she is a JAZZ dancer! those are one of the things when you are an old grandpa tell your kids. i can just picture it being an old wrinkly man talking to my grand kids "Back in my day i use to pick up on all the hot NBA dancer chicks" haha
And lastly some big church stuff have happened to me too. I am in a book of Mormon institute class. And i guess my teacher won some tickets to go on a cruise and as any normal person would do went on it. after class one day he asked me and some other guys to stick around after class to talk to us. he then proceeded to tell us that we won tickets and he asked us to teach institute. i was the only guy that wasn't a returned missionary. so i ended up teaching a day of Institute to a class where i am one of the youngest people in there. i taught first Nephi chapters 12-15 to a class of about 30 people and a guy from the church that was there to make sure i was not preaching false doctrine. i was scared out of my mind but over all it went pretty good. The second thing that happened to me was that i had a meeting with the stake president. I was then given the Calling to be the second counselor in the elders quorum. which is weird for me because i hear that and i think of old people so ya just weird.
Well those are just a few of the highlights of my college life thus far peace out!

Well you have certainly had some neat & fun expereinces so far! I can't wait for you to learn to upload pictures. Bring your lap top and your camera home and Dad can show you. I liked your "grandpa" thought :) You didn't tell me they had someone from the church there while you taught. I bet that didn't help the nerves? :) This are all great experiences for you before you go on your mission.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is a one shot wonder.
